More than just pictures

This gallery shows more than pictures of vigils. It documents people who no longer look away — people standing up peacefully, resolutely and visibly against animal cruelty, abuse, neglect and the failure of existing protection systems.

Every candle, every poster and every face stands for an animal that had to suffer. For animals whose fate must not be forgotten. For Buddy, Jette, Schmotzer and many others, whose suffering reminds us to look closer and act more consistently.

Our vigils are places of quiet remembrance, but also a clear signal to politics, authorities, the justice system and society: animal cruelty is not a trivial offence. Anyone who abuses, abandons, neglects or kills an animal must expect real consequences.

We gather peacefully, respectfully and independently of political camps. The sole focus is the animals, their protection, and the demand for consistent enforcement and improvement of animal welfare law.

The pictures in this gallery speak of grief, compassion and anger. Above all, they speak of solidarity — showing that people are willing to raise their voice when animals have none of their own.
